Letters [manuscript]. 1900-1919.

Largely personal letters from Ryrie to his wife, one written in 1900, and the others beginning in 1914 at the outset of the war and continuing until 1919 when his wife joined him in Egypt. Most of the letters are written from Egypt, Gallipoli peninsula or Palestine. They also include letters he wrote to his daughters and son Jim during the same period and a few letters to Mrs. Ryrie from people serving with or in contact with her husband.

Soldier. Commissioned second lieutenant in the 1st Australian Horse 1898. Served in the South African War, initially as a captain, with the 6th (New South Wales) Imperial Bushmen from May 1900 to June 1901. Severely wounded September 1900 at Wonderfontein.
